04 Dec What is Eyebrow Microblading? Learn from the Specialist Herself
Say Hello to Maya Moore – Eyebrow Microblading Specialist
Starting as an esthetician, then working for a number of years in makeup & facials, Maya Moore, found her real passion with working with permanent brows. Her esthetician journey led her to the exciting field of microblading. She now is the East Bay’s most sought after artist in eyebrow microblading (a.k.a eyebrow tattooing.)
Microblading is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine. The artist draws hair-like strokes with the tool to mimic natural hairs in your brow. She has growing client waitlist and now turns to teaching her methods with experienced estheticians to make sure more people can get her amazing brows. She currently offers services at Jovance Salon & Barbering.
Entering the World of Microblading
While working at Jovance, a friend introduced her to microblading. “There was nobody doing it in the Bay Area,” says Moore and “I saw an opportunity to enter a new market.” The first series of training was rough but she was persistent. “I was my own first client and had to practice on fake skin. Then I built an interest list of 35 people to start.” Her entrepreneurial mindset helps her create a demand list of people by seeking out those interested in new beauty innovations and methods.
“The first part of training is just getting yourself comfortable with the strokes and to focus on the art without thinking you are working on a live person. I just wanted to be the best.” To get an even more solid foundation, she attained a second training in Los Angeles. The training elevated her level and quality of work.
Why Microblading is Exciting
Eyebrow microblading or eyebrow tattoo is a semi-permanent tattooing technique that creates hairlike strokes to fill in sparse or thinning brows. Moore says, “You get away from the limitations of waxing and over plucking the wrong hair! It has been a life changing experience after over plucking for so many years.”
In addition to those solving the problem of plucking incorrectly, it also gives great definition to the face and you do not need to get your brows done as frequently.
Importance of an Experienced Professional
It is important that the eyebrow artist is experienced with different skin types, colors, undertones and thickness. “I have done about 300 clients at this point. Microblading requires special skills which comes a lot with experience with different skins.” Maya completely believes in the old saying “When one teaches, two learn.” Her goal is to turn her certification training into an official institute for eyebrow tattooing.
How Much does Microblading cost?
“It starts at $425 and goes upto $800. My services cost from $550 and up to $700” Maya says. Touch ups are usually required after 4-6 weeks. The effect lasts for 1-3 years depending upon the skin tones. “Clients usually come back after a year for their next full session. It depends a lot on the skin type like, oily skin requires clients to come back in 9 months.”
